Groups of French résistants were invaluable to the Allied war effort, providing intelligence, acts of disruption, counter propaganda and sometimes armed combat. This history of their activities tells the stories of bravery and heroism but also explains the uncoordinated nature of the Resistance and how their motivation and goals often differed from those of DeGaulle and the Free French in exile.
