Julia is hopelessly in love with her best friend Ralph, who in turn is tormented by desire for his cousin Ingrid. Ralph is devastated when Ingrid leaves to start a new life, marrying a much older art dealer in New York. On September 11, 2001, she has an appointment in Manhattan and is never seen again.
